Shilpa Shetty raises 63,000 pound for charity

Shilpa Shetty who was awarded the Global Diversity award managed to raise 63,000 pounds for charity on the gala night.

The star event of the night was when Shilpa auctioned her kisses for a cool 12, 500 pounds to an admirer.

The actress won the prestigious ‘Global Diversity’ award along with British racing driver Lewis Hamilton for making significant contribution to the public appreciation and understanding of diversity.

She also helped the organizers to raise 63,000 pounds for a charity - the Silver Star Appeal - that runs mobile diabetes assessment units

Stepping in to enthuse the charity auction, the Bollywood actress climbed up to the stage, took the mike and told the audience that the winner would get a “kiss from me”.

But Shilpa was quick to add, “It will be on the cheek. I don’t want my effigies burnt again.”

She was obviously referring to the controversy over the Hollywood star Richard Gere kissing her on stage during an AIDS awareness event in New Delhi in April last year which resulted in some Hindu nationalists burning her effigies and slapping court cases against her and Gere in India.

Her admirer got three kisses on his cheek.

Actress Sneha, who started her career in 1999, is going to complete her 50th film with Kathanayakadu. This Telugu girl, who was brought up in Dubai, was first spotted by director Fazil who recommended her to the director of the Malayalam flick Engane Oru Nila Pakshi.

She was cast as the lead actress in the film. And before she could complete the shooting of Engane... , she got offers from Tamil and Telugu film industries.

Since then, this pretty gal has never looked back. "These days, when it's rare for actresses to last ten films, I have been continuously working successfully for the past eight years. With Kathanayakadu, I will complete my 50th film. What more can I ask for?" she says. Well, Sneha, we hope you bat another 50 in your innings!

JTYJN beats Love Story in bookings

Light romantic college drama Jaane Tu... Ya Jaane Na is proving to be a tough competitor for the futuristic sci-fi thriller Love Story 2050 - both release on Friday and Jaane Tu... already has more advance bookings.

Both films are launching new faces. While Jaane Tu... is the launch vehicle of Aamir Khan's nephew Imran, Love Story 2050 is the debut film of producer-director Harry Baweja's son Harman.

Jaane Tu... is seeing a lot of advance booking because of PVR multiplex's strategic planning. They planned it long back and they themselves are the co-producers and distributors of the film," Joginder Mahajan, a Delhi-based film distributor, said.

In terms of budget, producers Adlabs and Baweja have invested about Rs.500 million in Love Story 2050. Jaane Tu..., written-directed by Abbas Tyrewala, is comparatively a low budget film. Co-produced by Aamir, his cousin Mansoor and PVR cinemas, the total cost of the film is Rs.300 million.

The response for Jaane Tu... is very good and the bookings began five days before the film released, said an executive of PVR cinemas.

Pradipto Roy of Jam Cinemas, another multiplex, echoed this, saying: "Jaane Tu... has won the youngsters' hearts as its advance bookings are much more than Love Story 2050. It should also fare better as the music is already a big hit, courtesy AR Rahman.

"Secondly, I feel that it is not an experiment like Love Story 2050. Except Krrish, sci-fi experiments have mostly failed."

Surendra, another distributor, expressed confidence in Jaane Tu... saying: "With Aamir Khan promoting and producing it, there are high hopes for the film. Love Story 2050 is a sci-fi movie and I have my doubts about it."

Harman's mother Pammi Baweja, who is the co-producer of Love Story 2050, herself has apprehensions about the movie.

She said: "I won't say that we have a lot of expectations from the film, but we just want people to appreciate it and like Harman's performance in the film."

Trade analyst Taran Adarsh is looking forward to both films.

"Both are fresh and novel. Both should do well. There's always space for a good film in the market," Adarsh said.

Former Bollywood actress Karisma Kapoor was also upbeat. "I am going to see both of them. It is great to see new talent in the industry and I am sure both would do well," she said.

India cruise to six-wicket win

Virender Sehwag hit a magnificent 119 from 95 balls to lead India to a six-wicket win with 7.5 overs to spare in their Asia Group B match against Pakistan at the National Cricket Stadium in Karachi.

India hit 301-4 off 42.1 overs, the quickest run race over a 300 score in Indian history, as Sehwag and man-of-the-match Suresh Raina (84 off 69 balls) put on 198 for the second wicket, after they had lost Gautam Gambhit for nine to a great catch in the gully to Misbah-ul-Haq off the bowling of Iftikhar Anjum.

India captain MS Dhoni hit 26 off 30 balls to lead his side home, after Yuvraj Singh had holed out in sight of victory for 48.

Earlier, Pakistan captain Shoaib Malik made 125 off 119 balls, his first limited-overs century in two years, to help Pakistan hit 299-4.

Malik eventually was forced to retire hurt after the 40th over suffering from leg cramps with the score at 219-1, having put on 129 off 110 balls with Younis Khan (59).

Mohammad Yousuf (30 off 20 balls) and Misbah-ul-Haq (31 not out) added late runs to add to Malik’s contribution, which comprised 16 fours and a six.

In the other Asia Cup game, Sri Lanka beat the United Arab Emirates by 142 runs at the Gaddafi stadium in Lahore on Thursday.

India secured a place in the Asia Cup final after a six-wicket victory over Sri Lanka with 19 balls remaining.

The Sri Lankans, who had already qualified for Sunday's final, chose to bat and after Sanath Jayasuriya hit 43 Chamara Kapugedera made 75 in 78 balls.

Chasing 309, Virender Sehwag and Gautam Gambhir gave India their usual flying start, sharing 92 inside 12 overs.

Shilpa Shetty kisses in public for a cause

Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty was spotted kissing in public again, and this time, it's was for a noble cause. She won the hearts of the people at the Global Diversity Award 2008 function in London by raising fund for a charity with her kisses.

She bagged the Global Diversity award along with formula 1 driver Lewis Hamilton for bringing about understanding of diversity. At the event, she helped the organisers raise 63,000 pounds for the Silver Star Appeal, a charity that runs mobile diabetes assessment units. She declared during the charity auction, a dinner with British Prime Minister Gordon Brown at Wembley, that the winner would get a kiss from her. As expected, a young admirer ended up paying 12,500 pounds for the dinner. As promised, Shilpa kissed the winner three times on the cheek.

She had earlier made it clear that the kiss would be on the cheek, as she didn't want her effigies to be burnt again. She had earlier received lots of criticism for kissing Hollywood actor Richard Gere on stage at an AIDS awareness function.

Brad Pitt takes Shiloh and Zahara to hospital where mum Angelina Jolie prepares for birth of twins

Angelina Jolie will give birth to twins within weeks, her doctors have said.


Partner Brad Pitt arrived at the Lenval hospital in Nice yesterday with daughters Shiloh and Zahara in tow for a visit with their pregnant mother Angelina Jolie.


The Hollywood actress checked in on Monday night for a pre-booked appointment in the maternity clinic.


Spokeswoman for the cllinic, Nadine Bauer, said: 'Ms. Jolie came to the hospital last night as part of a preplanned rest period, before she gives birth.

'The visit has been planned for a long time, there are no complications. She is just resting.'

The 33 year-old's admittance has been planned for some time, according to the hospital.

Miss Bauer said although Miss Jolie is expected to remain in medical care until she has the children she is not expected to give birth imminently.

Miss Jolie's long anticipated babies are expected to be delivered by French doctor Michele Sussmann and her U.S. gynaecologist Jason Rothbart, who is due to fly to Europe later this week.

Nonetheless some news outlets prematurely announced the twins' arrival yesterday.

At midday French website Closer claimed the exclusive that Miss Jolie had given birth.


Last month America's Entertainment Tonight wrongly claimed that the children had been born.

Miss Jolie and partner Brad Pitt, 44, have been staying with their large family in the South of France in preparation for the birth since their arrival shortly before the Cannes Film Festival in May.

They recently moved into the £35million Miraval Estate villa in the French hamlet of Correns, in the Provence region.

The pregnancy was a closely guarded secret until Miss Jolie's Kung Fu Panda co-star Jack Black let slip the confirmation that she is expecting twins during a televised press interview for the film.

Miss Jolie then released a statement confirming that her due date was August 19.

The twins will be the fifth and sixth children for Miss Jolie and Pitt.


France is a decidedly less exotic choice to Jolie's labour after she gave birth to her first biological child, daugher Shiloh Nouvel in Namibia in May 2006.

The couple also have three adopted children, Cambodian Maddox, six; Ethiopian Zahara Marley, three; and Vietnamese Pax Thien, four.

Miss Jolie has previously spoken of her desire to give birth in France and it is thought the family may make the country their permanent home.


She said last month: 'I actually haven't completely decided, but we are certainly thinking of France.


'It's a second language in our house. I'm still learning so I'm not going to attempt it here today, my rusty French. But our children are starting to speak French, so being here is very good for them for their language.'

The couple have been since dating 2005 after meeting on the set of action caper Mr & Mrs Smith the previous year.

Pitt was previously married to Friends star Jennifer Aniston, while Jolie has two ex-husbands, actors Billy Bob Thornton and Jonny Lee Miller.

Will Smith's 'Hancock' Off To Fast Start: Dramedy Soars To $24.1M In 1.5 Days; Predicted $115M High For July 4th Wkd

Sony Pictures now has a hefty $24.1 million total domestic gross in 1 1/2 days for its dramedy Hancock starring Will Smith and directed by Peter Berg: $6.8M Tuesday (from two evening shows starting at 7 PM at 3,680 North American theaters) and $17.3M Wednesday (from its full run in 3,965 venues for its official opening). I hear Sony is hoping for rain on July 4th around the country because it's traditionally not a big moviegoing day. Still, Hancock should have no trouble getting over $100M and maybe to $115M for the 5-day holiday.

WEDNESDAY AM: Sources tell me that very early numbers show that Sony Pictures' dramedy Hancock about a troubled superhero made a super-terrific $6.8 million Tuesday night from two evening shows starting at 7 PM at 3,680 North American theaters before its official opening today. (For comparison purposes, Iron Man took in $5 mil from its Thursday night shows before its official Friday May 2nd debut, and Transformers earned $8.8 mil last July 3rd before U.S. Independence Day. And those pics went on to become $300+M in domestic gross blockbusters.).

Today 3,965 theaters will be playing PG-13 Hancock, and I'm told Sony is projecting $100 million to $115 million for the 5 1/2-day July 4th weekend opening which Will Smith has traditionally owned based on the past performance of his movies which opened on that holiday like Independence Day, Men In Black, and Men In Black 2. All went on to earn $442+M in worldwide gross. Because of that impressive track record from the one actor whom Hollywood considers able to reliably open a movie these days, my box office gurus are predicting at least $105M for Hancock's 5 1/2-day weekend (all the way up to $115M) and at least $65+M for the Friday/Saturday/Sunday total because of the 92-minute running time which allows for more shows per day. But the film has received spotty reviews (only 33% positive on Rotten Tomatoes).

In a savvy effort to counter-program, Picturehouse's family fare Kit Kittredge: An American Girl opens wide this weekend in 1,747 theaters after making $450.1K in limited release since June 20th. Not only does this well-reviewed G-rated pic star that kid favorite Abigail Breslin, but also Will Smith's 7-year-old daughter Willow. (Prompting Smith to reveal he told her, "Daddy loves you sweetie, but I gots to stomp you at the box office.") My box office gurus think Kit Kittredge can make $17M to $20M for the 5-day weekend, and $12M to $14M for the 3-day weekend. But Picturehouse thinks the start of the film franchise will make $10M for the extended holiday.

Holdovers Wall-E from Disney/Pixar made $7.7M from a full day and night of screenings on Tuesday, and Universal's Wanted $4.7M. Predictions are for Wall-E to hang onto a strong $55M hold over the holiday, and Wanted maybe $40M.

These days, Jen is proving that she’s not just a pretty face by taking on the role of film producer. Together with gal pal Juliana Janes, she recently inked a first-look deal with Warner Brothers’ Vandalia Films production company.

Gwen Stefani: Out with Kingston

It looks as if she may burst any day now! But that’s not stopping Gwen Stefani from getting some active quality time with her son Kingston.

The “Hollaback Girl” songstress and her 2-year-old son (who was off playing around while his mom rested on a park bench) were spotted out and about in London, England earlier today enjoying the sunshine and getting some fresh air.

And while there aren’t many who can rival her figure (when she’s not eight-and-a-half months pregnant, that is), Stefani says it wasn’t always that way. “At school, I remember thinking that I wished I could be like a girl that was so skinny and got to eat whatever she wanted. [But] I always had to exercise.”

She continued, “My weight fluctuated and I got chubby again in 11th grade - at like 16 - and then I was like, ‘You know what? I’ve had enough of this up and down thing!’ So I got on the swim team and I was more determined not to be that chubby girl any more. Ever since then I’ve been able to control it, but it sucks. Nowadays I just try to realize how stupid it is, because nobody cares - except me!”

Madonna and husband Guy Ritchie have put on a show of unity with a rare public appearance together in New York. The couple enjoyed a romantic meal at an Italian restaurant - just hours after Madonna's publicist Liz Rosenberg issued a statement denying the pair are set to divorce.

Madonna and Ritchie were snapped heading into an exclusive restaurant hand in hand on Tuesday evening.

A source tells People.com, "(They looked) like a normal couple that just wanted to have a nice dinner out. They looked very unassuming, not like they were looking for attention."

Another onlooker tells the website, "Everyone was whispering and saying, 'Wow, that was Madonna. She is supposed to be separating from her husband. I can't believe she is here.'"

Transformers star Megan Fox has reportedly called off her engagement to actor fiance Brian Austin Green.

Sources claim the pretty brunette, 22, sent business associates correspondence last week alerting them to the sad news.

An insider says, "Megan still cares about Brian, but she now realizes she's too young to marry him."
