Spain defeats German for European Championship
David Villa held up the European Championship trophy, which the Spaniards had not won in 44 years.A championship 44 years in the waiting is worth a special celebration.
Spain made sure it didn’t disappoint any of its fans Sunday night, both during its 1-0 victory over Germany in Vienna, Austria, that won the European Championship, and after it.
Fernando Torres scored in the 33rd minute, and the Spaniards never backed down. Their last significant title came in the 1964 Euros.
“It is to me the most important day in Spanish football in many, many years,” Torres said.
The Spaniards got the one goal they needed and set off chants of “ES-PANA!” and “Ole, Ole Ole!” at the final whistle.
The entire Spanish squad ran over to the huge rooting section of red and gold, exchanging hugs, while many of the spent Germans collapsed to the turf.
“We played the best for the entire tournament, and we beat some great teams,” Torres said. “We beat Italy, the World Cup champion, and we beat Russia and now Germany. That is how you become champion.”
When Spain goalkeeper and captain Iker Casillas accepted the trophy on a stage, the Spanish fans began chanting the melody to their national anthem, which has no words. Thousands of camera flashes went off as the players jumped in place and then headed onto the field to show off their prize.
The Spaniards weren’t close to being finished with their celebration. They marched to their rooting section, hoisting the cup and saluting their flag-waving, firecracker-exploding fans.
“We have won in a brilliant way,” coach Luis Aragones said. “We will be able to start saying we can win, a European championship as well as any other thing.”

Earlier in a meeting with the Civil Aviation Ministry, Indian carriers had told that they need to hike fares by 20 to 25% (Rs 2,000 on an average) to cover their operational costs, considering the current high price of aviation turbine fuel (ATF) or jet fuel.
The airlines further said that even if states lower sales tax on jet fuel, they will not be able to pass on the benefit to passengers by lowering surcharge.
Aviation Secretary Ashok Chawla had asked airlines during a meeting earlier this month to do some calculations and inform the ministry if they could pass on the benefit of lower sales tax to passengers.
Any such assurance would have made the ministry's task of getting states to lower tax on ATF easier.
But airlines - who are feared to post a collective loss of Rs 8,000 crore in fiscal 2008-09 with national carrier Air India leading the pack - said they are not in a position to do so.
This is not the only issue that threatens to make flying more expensive. On Monday, the GMR-backed Hyderabad International Airport (P) Ltd (HIAL) sent its proposal for charging user development fees (UDF) from domestic passengers to the ministry.
The infrastructure major has proposed a levy of Rs 600 for all outbound passengers flying to anywhere out of Andhra Pradesh. For those flying within the state, a fee of Rs 350 has been proposed. The government is ''looking at'' these rates and is likely to ask the developer to lower the same as the overall high cost of flying has now brought domestic traffic growth down to single digit.
A senior GMR official said: ''The new airport started functioning on March 23 and we decided not to charge any UDF for first three months. The original plan was to have a UDF of Rs 750 for all outbound domestic passengers and this amount has been lowered substantially now. The huge investment made on developing airport has to be recovered and UDF is a component for doing that.''
Bangalore airport is also going to levy a UDF on domestic passengers when it completes there months of operation. Airlines fear that the new airport in Bangalore and Hyderabad are far away from the city, something that has already led to decline in flights at Bangalore. So flying out from these cities could soon get even more expensive.

Mallya has reason to be happy for Rajasthan IPL triumph
London (PTI) His own team Bangalore Royal Challengers might have come a cropper at the Indian Premier League, but liquor baron Vijay Mallya is content with the fact that the trophy went to Rajasthan Royals, a side sponsored by his company.
"Although the Royal Challengers failed to make much headway, the Rajasthan Royals sponsored by my company lifted the trophy," said Mallya, who had openly expressed his unhappiness with the way the Rahul Dravid-led Royal Challengers performed in the Twenty20 cricket extravaganza.
The flamboyant businessman, who also owns a Formula One team besides an airline, felt the IPL has added a new dimension to cricket.
"IPL has defined cricket. IPL was the biggest blockbuster and phenomenal market success for TV," he said.
Mallya said the tournament will help India build a "world class squad" by throwing up talented youngsters. Mallya also did not see anything wrong in cricketers making some quick money through the slam-bang format.
"When football players could make money why not cricketers?" he asked.
Mallya hoped that the England and Wales Cricket Board would also allow its players to participate in the next edition of the event.
"They will do so next year," he said. PTI

What is animation?
In Latin, ‘Anima’ means soul. Animation is all about giving soul to a character. It is about moving something which cannot move itself. Time and space play a critical role in animation.
The object of animation could be a 2D painting, a clay statue, a picture of a person/ animal/ thing – just about anything at all.
Animation simulates movement through a series of pictures that have objects in slightly different positions.
How does animation work?
A simple theory known as persistence of vision offers an explanation. The Greek astronomer Ptolemy discovered this principle back in 130 AD. If images are flashed before the eye at a speed of at least ten frames per second, the brain thinks it is seeing a single moving image. The number of Frames Per Second (or FPS) directly correlates to how smooth the movement appears. If the frame rate is too slow, the motion will look awkward and jerky. If the frame rate is too high, the motion will blur.
Animation techniques
2D cel animation
Also known as traditional animation, 2D animation involves the creation of a high volume of separate drawings that define a sequence. These drawings are then traced with ink onto transparent celluloid sheets called cel, which are scanned and painted using a special application software. These cels are layered on each other to create a sequence. The sequence is later edited to synchronise the audio and video content. This technique is widely used in creating characters for animations and cartoon programmes.
Did you know that a full-length feature film produced using cel animation often requires a million or more drawings to complete?
3D CGI animation
This technique makes extensive use of animation software programmes. 3D objects are constructed using curves or 2D geometric figures. Software programmes are used to modify the texture, light and colour of the object surface. Virtual cameras are used to zoom, focus, illuminate and resize the 3D objects. Important frames are developed to regulate the flow of intermediate frames. This technique is commonly used to create animation for television programmes, movies and online and console games.
3D motion capture animation
This process of creating 3D characters is similar to the 3D CGI animation technique; however, the techniques differ with respect to the time when the animation effects are introduced. To produce animation effects, sensors from a computer are attached physically to a human being. These sensors help coordinate the real-time movements of the human actor with the movements of a computerised 3D character. This technique is widely used for low-resolution games, Internet characters, live TV performances and special effects for animated movies.

Cast: Amitabh Bachchan, Abhishek Bachchan, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan
Aishwarya Rai BachchanDirector: Ram Gopal Varma
Shopping Corner: SARKARRAJ
At one point in Sarkar Raj, the villains are planning their next move. One of them shouts: Zabardast idea.
The other asks kya and he replies: abhi puri tarah se aaya nahi hai. That's exactly what I felt about the movie.
It is a good idea that doesn't quite coalesce into a whole. Despite wonderful performances and nicely done dramatic moments, Sarkar Raj doesn't pack the visceral punch of Sarkar.
The sequel takes us back to the Nagre's Thackeray-esque dynasty of self-styled political leaders.
One character describes Nagre senior as Neta ke libas mein ek goonda.
Subhash Nagre, played by Amitabh Bachchan, is still enthroned but it is his son Shankar, played by Abhishek, who is the new Machiavelli, plotting moves and ordering hits.
An international company wants to set up a power plant in Maharashtra.
The plant will displace 40,000 people. Shankar believes that the plant will empower the state and backs the plans. He becomes embroiled in a vast and lethal conspiracy, which almost destroys the Nagre family.
What works here are the performances. The Bachchans-all three of them are in fine form.
Aishwarya displays a rarely seen steel as the head of the corporation. Mr B creates a carefully controlled menace - you know this smiling grandfather could kill without blinking. And Abhishek surpasses them both with a brooding intensity that echoes, in the best way, his father's angry young man days.
The supporting cast is also impressive-Ravi Kale as the right hand man who proves fallible is especially good. What doesn't work as well is the screenplay.
Ram Gopal Varma shoots-in tight close-ups and notches up the background score to create a sense of drama but the film remains flaccid.
There is so much plot that at the end, Mr B expounds at length about who did what to whom and why and yet there is very little tension. Beyond a point, all the subterfuge and counter-subterfuge becomes tedious.
The film's politics also remain specious - Nagre senior expounds on gandi rajniti and then coolly has his enemies murdered.
Despite these sizeable bumps, I recommend that you see Sarkar Raj. Its performances are a proof that Ram Gopal Varma, who last gave us the mind-numbing Aag, is on way to getting his groove back.

Cameron Diaz is a burger queen
The majority of celebrities have figures to make us jealous - but what makes us turn an even deeper shade of green is when a star admits she eats junk food and still look great.Cameron Diaz has revealed her favourite food is burger and fries, reports Shape magazine. You never know you just might bump into her at your local Burger King.
The Shrek star admits: "I eat healthily but love my burgers. If you put a bowl of fries near me, then it's over."
However, if you are going round for tea at Cam's house don't expect anything posh as you're likely to see what she ate earlier.
She explained: "Normally I'll have a half-order of something and save the leftovers. I'm queen of leftovers."
She also admitted that all those burgers means she has to do some work.
"I hike, snowboard and surf. I admit I do hire a personal trainer as well," she added.
So she's not like us after all.

Hilary Duff Talks Vulgarities
A girl’s gotta eat! And yesterday Hilary Duff was spotted out and about on her way to grabbing some breakfast in Toluca Lake, California. She looked cute and casual in a grey t-shirt dress (and matching headband) with a pair of Lindsay Lohan-style black leggings and a pair of red flats.
And as she gets older, the “So Yesterday” babe says she’s trying to break out of the goodie-two-shoes/just-a-kid stereotype. And her latest movie, “War, Inc.” was just the thing she needed, Duff says.
“A lot of people didn’t want to give me a chance for a long time, because I was doing movies where I was nice, and I was still a kid. But that put me in a box, and people didn’t want to take a chance on me. When I got this script, I flipped over it. I felt, ‘I need this, I want this.’ It was great just getting to play a character that was so out there and crazy.”
“Not only am I [cursing], but I’m smoking, letting boys put their hands … . The character was a bit vulgar. I don’t think using the … word would have bothered me if I had said it once or twice, but it’s throughout the whole movie. But I’m just acting.”

And on their way to dinner, the could-be couple looked comfortable together, with Mandy sporting a black jacket with dark jeans and black flats, while Adams did his usual skinny-tee, leather jacket, skinny jeans thing.
Miss Moore has been enjoying the Big Apple ever since she hit town earlier this week for Monday night’s CDFA Awards.

Petrol, diesel costliest in Bangalore
BANGALORE: The steep hike in petrol and diesel prices has made the precious fuel dearer in India's IT hub, with retail prices being the costliest in the country.
Heavy taxes levied by central and state governments have led the state-run oil marketing firms to increase the price of petrol in Bangalore by Rs.5.61 per litre to Rs.58.50 from Rs.52.89 and diesel by Rs.3.36 per litre to Rs.39.80 from Rs.36.44.
In contrast, post-hike a litre of petrol costs Rs.50.56 in New Delhi, Rs.55.88 in Mumbai, Rs.54.29 in Kolkata and Rs.55.07 in Chennai.
Similarly, diesel is cheaper in New Delhi at Rs.34.80 a litre, Rs.39.54 in Mumbai, Rs.37.17 in Kolkata and Rs.37.73 in Chennai.
"About 59 percent of the retail price in Bangalore and Karnataka are central and state levies in the form of sales tax, entry tax, excise duty and cess, making the cost of petrol highest in the country," a top official of state-run Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) told IANS.
In the case of diesel, 37 percent of the retail price in Bangalore are central and state levies.
Though the government increased the cost of petrol by Rs.5 (11 percent) and diesel by Rs.3 (8.5 percent) Wednesday, the retail price in Bangalore has gone up by an extra 61 paise for petrol and 36 paise for diesel due to levies on the basic price.
The levies include a whopping sales tax of 28 percent on petrol and 20 percent on diesel imposed by the state government across Karnataka. In addition, an entry tax of five percent on petrol and diesel is levied on the basic price plus sales tax.
"But the basic price of petrol itself includes 23 percent excise duty and three percent cess on it, while the maximum retail price (MRP) includes freight cost and dealer's commission," the official said.
As a result, a litre of petrol in Bangalore at Rs.58.50 includes excise duty plus cess amounting to Rs.13.75. Similarly, a litre of diesel in the city at Rs 39.80 includes excise duty plus cess to the tune of Rs.3.71.
"Retail pricing of petrol and diesel is a very complicated process, as the basic price includes refining cost, customs duty on import of crude, landing cost, etc. For instance, a one percent reduction in excise duty, as made by the government, has brought down the central levy to Rs.13,350 per kilolitre from Rs.14,350. Cess of three percent on reduced excise is about Rs.400.
"Similarly, a one percent reduction in excise duty on diesel has brought down the central levy to Rs.3,600 per kilolitre from Rs.4,600. Cess of three percent on reduced excise is Rs.108," the official said.
In tandem with its dubious reputation as a city of traffic jams, the consumption of petrol and diesel in Bangalore has shot up by 25-30 percent in the last six months. As a result, 15,000 kilolitres of diesel and 13,000 kilolitres of petrol are sold across the city per month by IOC, Hindustan Petroleum (HP) and Bharat Petroleum (BP).
The soaring crude prices have forced private firms such as Reliance and Shell to shut their refilling outlets in the city as their retail prices did not have any subsidy from the government.
State-run oil firms IOC, HP and BP do not have a refinery in Karnataka. They transport the fuels in tankers by rail and road from Chennai, about 350 km from Bangalore.
Though Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemical Ltd (MRPL) of the Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (ONGC) is located on the west coastal town, about 350 km from here, its products are not sold in Bangalore since it does not have retail outlets.
As market leader, IOC accounts for about 50-55 percent of the total sales per month in Bangalore and Karnataka.
New Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa has ruled out slashing sales tax and entry tax on petroleum products in the state to cushion the impact of the steep hike, saying the state had not resorted to any fresh impost in the last budget, which he presented as finance minister in the previous coalition government.
He declined to react to the appeal made by central Petroleum Minister Murali Deora to the states to reduce sales tax and entry tax on petrol and diesel to reduce the burden of higher fuel prices on consumers.
Expressing shock over the price hike, Yeddyurappa told reporters here Wednesday that as the common man was already reeling under runaway food price hikes and soaring inflation, the central government should have further subsidised petroleum products instead of increasing their prices.

Bangalore: Students Beware! Public Exam for I PUC Too?
Bangalore: The students who take I PUC exams for granted may have to lose a whole year. So beware!
The PU Examination Board has come forward to put an end to this by conducting I PU exams as public exam. This decision was taken by the Board in the wake of II PU students performing badly in this year's exams.
As the SSLC and II PU exams are conducted in State Level, the Board has come forward to conduct I PUC exams in district level.
Currently, the question papers are prepared at the district level and the valuation is done by the lecturers of the respective colleges. But in future the evaluation will be done by the lecturers of different colleges, stated the Board Commissioner S.G. Hegde in a press release.
This change will be implemented after a meeting within a month. It is stated that the lecturers give grace marks to their students by correcting liberally in the college level evaluation andas a result students tend to perform badly in the II PUC Board exams. This will naturally lead to the dip in the results. A bridge course will also be conducted for the students.

Bangalore is the job center of India
New Delhi: Despite the fears of talent crunch in the country, India witnessed a 12 percent growth in employment by privately-held businesses last year, with Bangalore leading the cities' roster, a latest report says.
According to the International Business Report (IBR) by global consultancy firm Grant Thornton International, Vietnam tops the employment growth index 2008 with a 14 percent rise in employment by privately-held businesses, followed by India and China at 12 percent each.
Among the Indian cities, Bangalore topped the list by 16 percent growth in employment, followed by Chennai, Pune and Ahmedabad at 14 percent. The country's financial hub Mumbai and national capital Delhi showed a growth of only nine percent each this year, the report stated.
"Developing Asia will account for two-thirds of rise in employment growth, with India alone making up 30 percent of the net increase in global employment with 142 million new jobs by 2020," Grant Thornton India's national staff partner Vinamra Shastri said.
The employment growth in Bangalore, Chennai, Pune and Ahmedabad is due to the higher concentration of human-capital among the IT/ITES industries in these cities, Shastri added.
The countries like Thailand (negative 4 percent), Italy (0 percent), France, Ireland and New Zealand (all 1percent) are at the bottom with a negative growth in employment.
Globally, employment in privately-held businesses is up 4 percent this year, which is a slight improvement from last year when it had grown by 3 percent, the report said. "It is good to see that employment increased this year, despite concerns about the credit crisis and the availability of a skilled workforce. Privately-held businesses rely on their employees to survive in an increasingly competitive market," Grant Thornton International's global leader of privately-held business services, Alex Macbeath said.

Angelina Jolie Turns 33!
She’s one of the most sought out actresses in Hollywood, and together with partner Brad Pitt, she’s raising 4 kids, with two more on the way. And today Angelina Jolie turns 33 years old.And though her relationship with the “Fight Club” stud is anything but conventional, the “Girl Interrupted” Oscar-winner seems to be making things work.
She told press, “I said I was absolutely going to marry somebody in another field, an aid worker or something… Then I met Brad, everything I wasn’t looking for, but the best man, the best father I could possibly wish for.”
And together they’ve shown the world how to raise a family apart from society’s expectations. “People have made a lot of it that we’re not [married], but we both have been married before, and it’s very easy to get married, but it’s not easy to build a family and be parents together. And maybe we’ve done it backwards, but we certainly feel married.”
As for helping her adopted kids maintain their ethnic heritage, Ang says it’s very important to her. “All my children are from all different parts of the world, and especially my boys. We do have a teacher who teaches them Cambodian and Vietnamese in our house, and they know their flags and they know their music, and they know quite a lot about their culture and [Brad and I] bring in as much as we can and we’ll continue to as they get older.”

eMule
eMule is a peer-to-peer file sharing application for Microsoft Windows. Started in May 2002 as an alternative to eDonkey2000, eMule now connects to both the eDonkey network and the Kad network. The distinguishing features of eMule are the direct exchange of sources between client nodes, fast recovery of corrupted downloads, and the use of a credit system to reward frequent uploaders. Furthermore, eMule transmits data in zlib-compressed form to save bandwidth.
eMule is coded in Microsoft Visual C++ using the Microsoft Foundation Classes. Since July 2002 eMule has been free software, released under the GNU General Public License; its popularity has led to eMule's codebase being used as the basis of a Linux-specific client, xMule, and a multiplatform client, aMule, along with the release of many eMule mods (modifications of the original eMule) on the Internet.

Eat more insects, scientists say
Eating insects such as wasps and grasshoppers has health benefits and should be encouraged in the Western diet, scientists have said. The bugs are rich in protein and some minerals and are lower in cholesterol than beef or pork.
Research carried out at the National Autonomous University of Mexico found that 1,700 species are eaten in at least 113 countries across the world, usually as a substitute for meat.
In Mexico, grasshoppers are sold by the pound in markets and fried before being eaten while the larvae of giant butterfly sell for the equivalent of £12.50-a-plate in some restaurants.
Colombians eat ants, which they grind and spread on bread, and termites while Filipinos are partial to grasshoppers, crickets and locusts.
In Papua New Guinea, moths, dragonflies and beetles are popular when boiled or roasted over an open fire and the late Emperor Hirohito of Japan's favourite dish was wasps with rice.
Grasshoppers have 20 grams of protein and just 6 g of fat per 100g while fire ants have 13.9g of protein and 3.5g of fat. Crickets are sources of iron, zinc and calcium.
Eating insects also keep puts less strain on the environment because cultivating insects requires forest to be preserved rather than felled.
David George Gordon, a Seattle-based naturalist and author, says: "Insects are the most valuable, underused and delicious animals in the world.
"Maybe we in the West are the weirdos."
In February, the UN Food and Agriculture Organisation staged a special conference on the benefits of eating insects - known as entomophagy.
Patrick Durst of the FAO admitted that Westerners will take some persuading before tucking in to insects.
"We're not going to convince Europeans and Americans to go out in big numbers and start eating insects."
But he held out hope that insects would catch on with the more adventurous, especially if they "don't have to look the bug in the eye as they're eating it."
